Yes, you've reminded me of the Time Traveller's amazing second future journey in Wells's 'The Time Machine', far beyond the Eloi and Morlocks to an epoch when the sun itself is dying and the Earth collapsing back into it. A stupendous piece of s-f writing for its time (1895). And it seems that, even at a scholarly biographical level, much remains to be done about Morris's last journey - even John Carruthers's own writings about it have never been published in full.
